Approach
How we own and operate.
We take a long view, keep things simple and work closely with the people who lead the businesses we own.
01Commitment
Long-term ownership
We acquire businesses with the intention of owning them indefinitely.
Our capital is permanent rather than borrowed from a fund with a fixed life, so there is no scheduled exit and no pressure to dress a business up for its next sale. That changes the questions we ask. Instead of what a company might be worth in a few years, we ask what it will take for it to be stronger in ten.
We favour sensible balance sheets, steady reinvestment and decisions that compound. Where a business needs patience, it gets it.
In practice
- No pre-set holding period
- Prudent use of debt
- Profits reinvested where it serves the business
02Commitment
Operating support
We help where help is wanted, and stay out of the way where it is not.
Every business we own keeps its own identity, leadership and culture. Alongside that independence we offer practical support drawn from our experience as owners and operators: strengthening financial reporting, improving systems, recruiting for key roles, planning capital investment and thinking through growth.
Support is agreed with management, not imposed on them. The aim is always to make a good team more effective, never to add layers.
In practice
- Finance, reporting and controls
- Systems and process improvement
- Recruiting and leadership development
- Strategic and capital planning
03Commitment
Governance
Clear roles and candid information make for better decisions.
We put in place governance proportionate to each business: a small, engaged board, regular and honest reporting, and clarity about which decisions sit with management and which with the owner.
We expect high standards of conduct, sound financial controls and respect for the law and for every stakeholder. We hold ourselves to the same standards.
In practice
- Proportionate, engaged boards
- Clear decision rights
- Regular, plain-spoken reporting
04Commitment
Partnership with management
The people who run a business are the reason it succeeds.
We look for leaders we trust and then back them. That means alignment on long-term goals, incentives that reward lasting results, and an owner who is accessible as a sounding board when difficult decisions arise.
For founders and family owners, we can structure transitions at a pace that suits them, whether that means stepping back gradually, retaining a stake or handing over to a successor they have chosen.
In practice
- Management keeps running the business
- Long-term alignment of interests
- Flexible, considered transitions
